The Fayette County Humane Society was formed as a nonprofit 1979 by a small group of people concerned about the welfare of the domestic animals in Fayette County, Ohio. The group was, as are all nonprofits in Ohio, a nonprofit charity, funded by donations and fundraising. With minimal resources, the organization struggled to carry our its goal of protecting domestic animals. In fact, only one program could be supported, which was a part-time Humane Officer to respond to calls about abused, neglected, or injured domestic animals.
Since that time, the Humane Society has expanded and now offers multiple programs and employs 5 people to carry out its mission. We still remain a nonprofit, funded by those who join us as we work toward a better future for all domestic animals.
